From November 9 to 12, 2017, the new media artist LU Yang's cross-media artwork, Uterusman, will be presented at ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair. This art project (Booth No. N4) is supported by Cc foundation established by the renowned art collector Mr. David Chau. Based on a close collaboration between Cc foundation and the artist, this art presentation will focus on the social attributes of the work, upgrade the game elements that captivated the audience who had viewed the artist’s previous works. Also through transforming the setting, the art project will create another dimension of space that is relatively oppressive and sealed in order to enhance the work’s interaction with the audience and its visual impact.

Uterusman is the ideal ‘superhero’ designed by LU Yang. Its protagonist’s physique is from the shape of a female uterus and the outline of a person standing with feet planted and arms outstretched upwards. The appearance of  Uterusman implies the strength that a male superhero has， but the source of its superpower is a uterus which is an exclusive feature belonging to the female.

So Uterusman is genderless in this ambivalent setting.  Characteristic super desperation skills possessed by Uterusman embody its gender ambivalence, and also question the law of biological reproduction in nature. Uterusman is a mixed project which contains video, animation, illustration, cosplay photography, sculpture and other forms of media.

Artist LU Yang has gained acclaim for her work in new media art and bio-art. She is specialised in creating cross-media artworks which include video, installation, animation, photography, and video games etc., in order to explore the meaning of life as well as question its very existence.

This non-profit art project Uterusman presented by Cc Foundation at ART021 will be combined with the theme and social characteristics of a large-scale art fair on the basis of its original version. Via a way of introspective thinking associated with art galleries and gallery systems, the audience can experience sensory stimulation and psychological pleasure in another dimension of space.
