Introduction

Donna Huanca was born in 1980 in US, and studied at Städelschule, Frankfurt, was the recipient of the DAAD Artist Frankfurt and a Fulbright research grant. The body and skin are ongoing points of focus in Huanca’s work, where she employs them as both surface and material. The painted performers, often present alongside her studio works, dissimulate amongst the various elements in a state of camouflage; their ability to transition in and out of sentience composes a sort of allegory to the fragmentation of identity.
