Dennis Miranda Zamorano, born in 1993 in Mexico City, is a self-taught artist who lives and works in Mexico City. His practice is deeply informed by El Tianguis, the open-air market tradition in which his family has participated for generations. For Zamorano, the market’s dynamism, chance encounters, and circulating economies of objects and desires parallel the act of constructing a painting. He treats the canvas as a site of negotiation, moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, image and language. His process is highly physical, involving the accumulation and excavation of multiple layers of house paint, oil, acrylic, and watercolor through scratching, sanding, washing, and exposure to natural elements. The resulting works are tactile, oneiric, and intensely colorful, reflecting on the fragmented and fragile nature of human experience. His works are held in collections across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
