Hiroka Yamashita was born in 1991 in Hyogo, Japan, and is currently based in Okayama. She received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2017 and earned an MFA in Arts and Design from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, in 2019. Since returning to Japan, Yamashita has presented solo exhibitions across the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. In 2022, she participated in the Fürstenberg Zeitgenoessisch residency program in Germany. Her recent solo exhibitions include Project N 84 at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in 2021, and she has taken part in notable group exhibitions such as Yes You Can: The Strength of Life through Art at What Museum in Tokyo in 2022. In 2023, Taka Ishii Gallery presented a solo exhibition of her work.
