Jordan Wolfson, born in 1980, is an American visual artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. His practice spans video, film, sculptural installation, and virtual reality, and is known for its provocative engagement with power, violence, desire, and identity. Born in New York to Ashkenazi Jewish parents and raised in a secular Jewish household, Wolfson frequently incorporates elements of Jewish heritage and cultural symbolism—such as the Star of David—into his work as a means of examining identity and social structures. He received a BFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003, during which time he began producing film, video, and computer animation shown in both the United States and Europe. Wolfson’s first exhibition took place at Galleri Brändström & Stene in Stockholm when he was 22, marking the beginning of his international artistic career.
