Liu Guangli was born in 1990 in Lengshuijiang, Hunan Province, China, and currently lives and works in Paris. He graduated from Le Fresnoy – National Studio for Contemporary Arts in France in 2020. His artistic practice often unfolds in the “gaps” between different ways of narrating history or events, focusing on how information is constructed, transmitted, and understood, and ultimately taking form across installation, video, documentary film, and painting. His work suggests that our understanding of the present is not neutral, but is profoundly shaped by media formats, pre-existing systems of language, and social norms. Liu has received international recognition, including the Golden Nica Award and Honorary Mentions at Ars Electronica in Linz in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Golden Key Award for Best Short Film at the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival in 2021.
