Mimosa Echard, born in 1986 in Alès, France, lives and works in Paris. Her practice brings together biological research, the history of experimental cinema, and personal experience to explore the complex relationships between sexuality, synthesis, and perception. Working across a range of media, including sculpture, installation, and video games, Echard focuses on ongoing and often contradictory processes of absorption, accumulation, and circulation. These processes are observed in phenomena as varied as popular culture, metabolic systems, and electromagnetic spectra. Attentive to the invisible or latent energies within materials, she uses assemblage and installation to disrupt the capacity of language to fully apprehend its objects, allowing new—and even “unnatural”—associations to emerge. In 2022, Echard was awarded the Marcel Duchamp Prize.
