Teresa Baker is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes of western North Dakota and lives and works in Los Angeles. Through a mixed-media practice that combines artificial and natural materials, Baker creates abstracted landscapes that explore vast space and how we move, see, and navigate within it. The materials, textures, forms, and color relationships in her work are guided by her Mandan/Hidatsa culture, through which she imbues everyday materials with cultural meaning and identity. Baker has held solo exhibitions at institutions including the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, The Arts Club of Chicago, and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and has participated in major group exhibitions such as Prospect.6 and shows at the Hammer Museum and Ballroom Marfa. She is a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow and a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Fellowship. Her work is held in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hammer Museum, and the Yale University Art Gallery.
