Daniel Buren, born on March 25, 1938, in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, is a French conceptual artist, painter, and sculptor, and one of the most influential figures in contemporary art. He is widely known for his site-specific installations that critically engage with space, architecture, and institutional frameworks of display. Buren has received numerous major international awards, including the Golden Lion for Best Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1986, the International Award for Best Artist in Stuttgart in 1991, and the prestigious Praemium Imperiale for Painting in Tokyo in 2007. His iconic works include Les Deux Plateaux (1985) in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais-Royal in Paris and The Observatory of Light at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Buren’s work has been exhibited worldwide and continues to shape discourse on public art and spatial perception.
