Huma Bhabha, born in 1962 in Karachi, Pakistan, currently lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA. She is known for her distinctive, often grotesque renditions of the human figure—forms that frequently appear dissected, fragmented, or incomplete. Bhabha frequently incorporates found materials into her sculptures, such as Styrofoam, cork, rubber, paper, wire, and clay, occasionally integrating objects gifted to her by others. Many of her sculptural works are also cast in bronze.
At the same time, she is equally prolific in her works on paper, which include vivid pastel drawings, uncanny photographic collages, and printmaking pieces suffused with an eerie, haunting atmosphere.
