Ming Wong is a Singaporean contemporary artist who lives and works in Berlin.

Working primarily with video installations, Wong is known for his re-interpretations of iconic films and performances from world cinema. Through acts of reenactment and appropriation, his practice critically examines issues of identity, gender, cultural translation, and performative displacement. Wong frequently casts himself in multiple roles across differing identities, employing strategies of so-called “miscasting” to expose the underlying power structures and cultural assumptions embedded in cinematic narratives.

In 2009, Wong represented Singapore at the 53rd Venice Biennale with the body of work Life of Imitation at the Singapore Pavilion. He was awarded the Special Mention (Expanding Worlds) during the Biennale’s Opening Ceremony, marking the first time a Singaporean artist received an award at the Venice Biennale.

Ming Wong is currently a Professor of Performance in the Expanded Field at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
