Paul Pfeiffer, born in 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii, is an American sculptor, photographer, and video artist. His work is widely recognized for its sophisticated manipulation of popular media, images, and video technologies, often recasting familiar athletic and entertainment events to reveal unexpected and open-ended meanings. At the age of ten, Pfeiffer moved with his family to the Philippines and later relocated internationally before settling in New York City, where he has lived and worked since 1990. He received a BFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from Hunter College, New York. Pfeiffer also participated in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program. His practice critically examines spectacle, power, and systems of looking, and he is represented by leading galleries in New York, Berlin, Paris, and London.
