Wang Jianwei, born in 1958 in Sichuan, China, is a pioneering figure in contemporary Chinese art. Since the 1990s, he has consistently explored the impact of interdisciplinary knowledge and integrated research on contemporary art, drawing from philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, and anthropology. His practice spans documentary film, theater, multimedia performance, installation, painting, and text, employing methods from multiple disciplines to develop new artistic languages. His documentary Production was included in documenta X in Kassel, and he has participated in major international exhibitions such as the São Paulo Biennial and the Venice Biennale. Landmark projects include Yellow Light at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art and The Temple of Time at the Guggenheim Museum. Wang is a recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award, and his works have been exhibited at institutions including the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
